Hot Water Dudley
Dudley Plumbing Co repairs and replaces hot water systems in Dudley, Whitebridge and Redhead, from a dead element at dawn to a full cylinder change. The plumber tests the unit and quotes a fixed figure, then repairs it that visit or orders the new system in. Ring (02) 4063 3469 or send the form.

Repair or replace: which way does it go?

Dudley Hot Water Services
Four jobs sit beside this one, each on its own page:
Heat Pump Hot Water
A frost-free coast suits a heat pump, and the tank can sit under cover away from the spray. See heat pump installs.
Emergency Hot Water Repairs
A cylinder that floods the laundry at night goes to our after-hours plumbers, with a temporary tank if the new one has to be ordered.
Gas Hot Water Connections
Changing to a gas unit means the supply pipe has to be big enough and pressure-tested, which our gas fitting team handles.
Hot Water Leak Tracing
A wet patch near the cylinder with no visible drip may be a buried pipe instead, and that is a job for leak detection.
Gas systems, storage and continuous-flow
A gas storage cylinder keeps a full tank hot, which suits a house where several showers run back to back. A continuous-flow unit only fires while hot water is being drawn, so it cannot run out mid-shower and suits a smaller household. Our gas fitters connect and commission either type, with the flue and supply pipe included in the quote.
Electric storage and instant units
An electric storage cylinder is the straightforward change when an old electric tank fails, since the water and power points are already in place. Instant electric heaters sit near the tap they serve, handy for a laundry or a single basin. Where a new unit needs a dedicated circuit, an electrician wires it and the quote marks where our part stops.
Solar and heat-pump options
Solar hot water mounts panels on the roof and the tank either up there or on the ground, and with no frost on this coast there is no freeze protection to worry about. A heat pump extracts warmth from outside air with a compressor, which draws far less power than a plain element. Both cost more to buy and less to run, and the heat pump page linked above goes into the detail.
How is a hot water job priced?
We provide up-front, honest quotes that will always match the final price, should you decide to go ahead.
What feeds into the quote:
- The system itself Swapping electric for electric of the same size is the smaller job; changing fuel type or moving the unit adds pipe, cable and labour.
- The connections A cottage still on its original galvanised water service may need that pipe renewed to the meter before the new unit goes on, and that length is in the figure.
- Access A cylinder in a tight laundry or under a low floor takes longer to get at than one standing in the open.
- Timing A tank that dies on a Sunday night is priced at the out-of-hours rate, and you hear that rate before a plumber is sent.

What a hot water customer said
Martin's unit turned out to be faulty, and this is how the visit went:
They looked after an issue with the hot water system for us. It turned out that the unit was faulty. To ensure hot water, they immediately replaced the unit with a temporary one.
Where this job hands off
When we're not the right call: a hot water unit that keeps cutting the power to the house has a wiring fault, and a licensed electrician tests that circuit before we reconnect anything.
Hot water questions before you ring
Should I repair or replace my hot water system?
A cylinder that has rusted through and leaks is past repair, so it gets replaced. A failed element, a sticking valve or a faulty thermostat on a younger unit can be repaired on site. Salt exposure changes the sums, and a tank past ten years out in the weather is near the end.
Can I keep the showers running while a new system is ordered?
Yes. If the new unit has to be ordered, we connect a temporary tank so the house still has hot water in the meantime. We take it away on the day the permanent unit is fitted, and the quote covers the whole arrangement.
Is a heat-pump system suited to a house near the coast?
Yes, with care over where it goes. A heat pump takes its heat from the air instead of burning fuel, and a frost-free coast is easy on it. The fan unit needs airflow and a spot out of the direct salt spray.
Do you work on solar hot water systems?
Yes, repairs and replacements. Circulating pumps, valves and rusted-out tanks are all plumbing work. If the panels or the electrical side need another trade, the quote names that trade before work starts.
